So, after watching the Oscars, I’ve been thinking a lot about what my favorite movie is and what I think should win best picture.
That movie, hands down, is The Cutting Edge.
It has suspense, great dialogue, romance, special effects, improbable situations that seem real, and most of all, it has figure skating. There just aren’t enough movies about figure skating. Sure, there’s the Cutting Edge 2, the Cutting Edge 3, the Ice Princess, and Blades of Glory, but the movie that blazed the trail for these sub–par figure skating flicks was that original skating extravaganza with D.B. Sweeney and Moira Kelly, and a young John Locke from Lost. See, if Terry O’Quinn is in the movie, it has to be great.
Don’t believe me? Give it a chance. While the initial cheese factor of the film is almost too strong to bear, I guarantee you will be sucked in. It’s almost like a train wreck that way, you just can’t look away, no matter how sparkly the sequins, how questionable the acting, or how puffy the scrunchies.
